An equestrian property, with an 18th century residence and some 16 hectares of land, in the the bocage countryside around Vire.
In the French department of Calvados, 20 km from Bayeux train station and 26 km from that of Caen. Villers-Bocage, a town with 3,000 inhabitants less than 8 km away, has all shops and amenities. The proximity of the A84 motorway puts Deauville, Caen and Rennes within easy reach. Gold-Beach and Arromanches, both emblematic sites of events in the Second World War are 20 minutes away. One side of the property faces south, with a view extending over the surrounding countryside.
In the verdant bocage countryside of the Bessin region, this large, luxurious home and two stone buildings are set out around a main courtyard with lawns and tall trees. Above and behind the residence, out of sight of onlookers is a leisure garden, with a natural swimming pool, which is clearly separate from the equestrian facilities that it looks down on together with the surrounding countryside.
The 18th century residenceSlightly set back, on the left-hand side of the entrance to the courtyard, a large horse-chestnut tree in the middle of the lawns forms shadowy patterns on the manor house facade. The latter comprises a main building with two side projections, both topped with triangular pediments. The slightly protruding, central entrance is flanked by pilasters and crowned with a pediment. A sculpted stone shed dormer marks the top of this central bay. The middle of the rear facade features an adjoining octagonal tower, built of white stone inlaid with red brick. It is set between two little, single-storey buildings, whose walls feature two windows. An extension adjoining the right-hand gable is built of shale quarry blocks. It houses a self-contained dwelling.
Ground floor
This level is divided into two sections separated by a through corridor, at the end of which is a wide wooden stairway leading upstairs. Cement tiles cover the floor.
A lounge, on the right-hand side, features a fireplace, with stone jambs supporting the wooden lintel and mantel, as well as old terracotta floor tiles. A door, on the right-hand side of the fireplace, opens into a fully fitted kitchen. The room also communicates with a bright, little study.
A dining room, on the left-hand side, precedes a triple aspect reception lounge, with four windows. Both rooms have painted parquet flooring which is laid in a strip pattern in the dining room and a herringbone pattern in the lounge. The latter is enhanced with a marble fireplace and a ceiling cornice.
A little corridor on the left-hand side, prior to the stairway, provides access to a toilet and a laundry room.
